Grand Wood Working is a family craft business run by Mel Murray and his daughter Rachel, based in the Chicago suburbs. Mel is a navy veteran who has spent decades perfecting his craft on the lathe — turning beautiful pens, bowls, pocket watches, and decorative pieces from fine hardwoods. Mel and Rachel bring a creative eye to the stained glass side of the shop, crafting original panels from beloved subjects like the signature navy sailboat and bold tiger portrait. Together they also offer laser engravings on wood and stone — including deeply personal keepsakes like ultrasound photos etched permanently into stone.
